Honoring Veterans

In 2003 Omega Foundation partnered with the United States Department of Defense in honoring veterans of the Korean War.

During the 2003 Christmas season, Trustees Roan A. McClure (Staff Sergeant, US Army, SF, Retired) and Dallin S. Goodrich (Private, US Army, ADA, Active Duty) drove to a number of homes in the Illinois Valley, Josephine County, Oregon to present a newly authorized gold lapel pin for Korean War Veterans and to let them know about the new Korean War Service medal presented to Korean War veterans by the Korean government and authorized by congress for wear on the US uniforms. Private Goodrich was back in the valley on leave prior to going overseas to Korea for a one year tour of duty.

Seen to the top left on this page is Val Toone receiving thanks from a grateful government for his service in the Army. Next stop on the trip was Walter Farmer who served in the Navy during the Korean War. There were two other unphotographed home presentations made.

Following these two presentations, there was, three weeks later, a gathering in the Cave Junction City Council Chambers (seen here to the left) to present pins to three Korean veterans who came from Grants Pass and Selma, Oregon. The active duty recruiters from Grants Pass also came to express their appreciation for the veterans’ service.

The honoring of veterans will be an ongoing program sponsored by the foundation.

There are currently two other books in the planning stage. One is the story of the first US citizen during World War II who transferred from the Canadian Army to the U.S. Army once the United States declared war in 1941. The other is a story of 12 generations from one family who served in the military in America from 1680 through 2006.
